Despite a 5 year degree to become an Osteopath, I felt that I left university with more questions than answers. Studying the anatomy and physiology was all well and good, but I wanted to know more about the deep transformation that can occur in treatment, and how simple hands on work could have profound results.
I fell in love with obstetrics, working with mothers and newborns to combine traditional forms of healing with what I was learning about non-traditional methods. Newborns quickly became my favourite patients, as they so quickly and effortlessly adjusted to changes.
One particular baby came to me after having been born via forceps. Her mother had a peaceful and joyful pregnancy, so this birth was traumatic in comparison. This sweet little girl was rigid, stressed, and tight when I held her in my hands. As I gently moved my fingers from the base of her spine to her neck, she lovingly released the memory of her traumatic birth. Watching this sweet baby become calm and quiet was a gift for her mother.
My education is always continuing. Most recently I have been studied for a Postgraduate Diploma in Women’s Health Osteopathy at the Molinari Institute of Health and learning more about Family Constellations. I am forming a unique approach to wellness that encompasses the physical and emotional aspect and draws from my varied interests.
