One the back of my recent post about egg freezing http://avni-touch.com/why-egg-freezing-is-not-the-solution-for-working-mothers/ , here’s a blog on how corporate women can support their fertility so that they have more choices available if and when they choose to start a family.
1- Supercharge nutrition; Avoid white flour, sugar and dairy which all create a more acidic environment for cell health, and leave the system feeling depleted. Instead, eat more protein (organic eggs, chicken, quinoa), dark leafy greens and warm, nourishing foods to support kidney energy.
2-Consider coming off the contraceptive pill. Many women go onto the pill in their teens, and by the time they are ready to conceive, they may have been on the pill for around 20 years. As well as potential risk factors such as high blood pressure, long term use of the contraceptive pill reduces the ability for a woman to understand the rhythm of her own hormones. Consider using an app such ashttps://kindara.com/wink to track your cycle. You can learn to recognise different body signals such as cervical mucus which are important fertility clues when you want to get pregnant.
3- Check your hormones- have a AMH test. This stands for ‘anti-mullerian test’ and is a simple blood test to determine the ovarian reserve. Other tests to consider are thyroid and adrenals as the orchestration of the whole hormonal system is important for fertility.
4-Balance your busy lifestyle with more rest- try restorative yoga, meditation, or tai chi. The parasympathetic nervous system is the part that controls deep rest and recovery and is inhibited by high stress. If you work in a busy environment, have a commute, work long hours or are simply driven, your stress levels may be set too high. Factoring in some restful time will be enjoyable and benefit well-being in the long-term.
5- See a women’s health practitioner such as an osteopath or acupuncturist to address any previous health issues, or strains in the body. It’s best to proactively get the body mind ready , rather than have to fix issues which arise after trying to conceive.
Thank you to the many people who participated on the topic of egg freezing by adding their insights and comments. I would love to hear how you think women can best support their fertility.
